Original painted dome top oak trunk from Sweden with traditional hand-painted details include floral and central house motif along top front.
The original blue painted finish has undertones of teal and is accented by the muted red painted straps and corners.
Monogram of MHS and date "1802" indicate this trunk may have been crafted to give as a dowry or wedding present.
This is an exceptional example of Swedish folk art paint; please examine to appreciate the fine details, including the interior with painted flourishes.
Wrought iron side handles, straps and corner reinforcements, no lock. Trunk is just under 3' wide.
Restored and waxed, this trunk is ready to be placed and enjoyed. Painted finish shows distress, wear and fading through generations of use.
Signs of wear typical for age include nicks, scratches, cracks (see top), age related separation of wood (see interior bottom and top), etc. This wear does not impact the strength nor functional integrity of the trunk which is ready for use.
