Small dome top trunk from Sweden dated 1877 and monogram of AJS.  The burnished red background is all hand painted in the traditional folk style of the era.
Even the interior was painted in this lovely example of Swedish country craftsmanship from the 19th century. The paint has been worn off and distressed down to the natural pine wood below in many areas.
The worn patina adds to its ageless appeal, while other signs of wear are commensurate with age such as the small cracks along the top, nicks, marks, distress etc., none of which detract from the beauty of this highly original painted trunk.
Restored, this trunk is strong, stable and ready to be enjoyed. No lock.
