This painted pine armoire still maintains the quality and details of the original hand-painted finish. The floral and border patterns against the brick red painted background were traditional folk art style elements of the era.
The date of 1846 and "P" "A" monogram inside hearts indicate it was likely a wedding or dowry present.
The original old door lock functions with key (1 included). Left door is secured in place by an internal latch.
The interior was covered in wall paper at some point in time. There is a hanging rod across the inside top and four pegs (to the upper left) not visible in the photos and two triangular wooden reinforcements in the inner front corners.
This painted two-door armoire has been restored and waxed so it is strong, stable and ready to use.
Age related wear include dings, old repairs, cracks, scratches, age related separation, distress to paint etc.; while seen throughout the armoire they do not detract from the beauty nor function of this wonderful folk-art find.
