This large chest of four drawers is a wonderful find. The hand-painted finish is all original, dating to the mid to late 1700's. 
The lovely floral painted details and flourishes were a traditional folk art design of the era set against the faux wood/brown finish, adding a cheerful feel to this large blanket chest. Even the sides were decorated as well.
This chest of drawers has been restored; the wax finish adds a soft luster to the piece, and the drawers function using a large skeleton key as a pull (4 included).
All scratches, cracks, dings, dried old wormholes, and age related separation(see top, sides, back, drawer bottom, etc) are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this special chest. Many sections especially around the top show more wear to the paint due to generations of use.
