Artist: Simon Ludwig Detlev Simonsen was born in 1841 in Munich, son of the painter Niels Simonsen.  When he was 4 years of age, his family moved to Copenhagen.  His father taught him drawing from an early age. Simonsen went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1855 to 1860 and was known for animal portraits.
