Drawer bottoms? wormholes? Black main color?

This pine chest of four drawers is a wonderful find. The hand-painted finish is all original, and evokes thoughts of sailing ships and time spent on the ocean.
Note the painted ship on the top, and nautical accents to the front drawers. While the date of 1869 likely represented a key date to the original owner, the dresser dates to the early 1900's. Black painted background with red and yellow accents.
"Stjarnan" means star in Swedish. For historical reference,  the steamship S.S. Guiding Star transported a large number of Swedish emigrants from Copenhagen to New York City in 1869 and may have been the inspiration for this chest.
This chest of four drawers has been restored and is ready for use; the drawers function using large brass pulls on each.
All scratches (seen throughout), cracks, dings, and age related separation are reflective of age and do not detract from the appeal nor function of this unique painted chest of drawers.
