This lovely painted armoire or German "Shrunk" still maintains the quality and details of the original hand-painted finish.
The soft, gentle green background with delightful florals and flourishes are all beautifully executed. Note the face of putti in the gold area of canted sides. The finish reveals generations of use in many areas where paint is missing, chipped or scuffed, revealing the wood below.
Even the lock and key system (still functioning, 1 key included) speak to the high quality of the craftsmanship of this armoire. The left door is held in place with an upper (new) interior latch. Interior painted blue.
This painted two-door armoire has been restored and waxed so it is strong, stable and ready to use.
Age related wear include dings, old repairs(back), cracks/scratches (throughout), age related separation (back), and visible distress to finish which all add to the aged grace of this lovely armoire which is fully functional. While the date of 1781 is painted on the crown, this shrunk was likely constructed and painted in the 1800's.
