This German shrunk or armoire still maintains the quality and details of the original hand-painted finish with a unique and colorful background. The four seasons are represented in each of the four panels. Notice the woman with a floral garland representing spring, and a gentleman sipping wine in autumn, etc.
Painted columns, cattle scene, monogram and date of 1802 and more all add to the visual appeal of this special find.
The old lock and key still function. The left door is held in place with an internal sliding metal tab or latch.
This painted two-door armoire has been restored and waxed so it is strong, stable and ready to use. Original wooden pegs along upper interior were used to hang items. A notch for hanging rod still exists, so will be simple to add a rod if buyer chooses to do so.
Age related wear includes dings, cracks, nicks/gouges in wood, scratches, age related separation to edges/corners/planks (see back), distress etc. while seen throughout the armoire do not detract from the beauty nor function of this wonderful folk-art find that is over 200 years old.
