Massive 18th-century German Baroque carved cabinet, crafted in the Schleswig-Holstein region of northern Germany around 1700. Constructed of oak with striking walnut veneer, this monumental piece features extensive hand carving throughout, including cherubs, foliate scrolls, and elaborate Baroque flourishes. The dramatic crown is centered by a carved robed female figure holding a disc in one hand and a serpent in the other, forming a powerful sculptural focal point.
Heavily paneled cabinet doors open with the original substantial iron key, which still functions. Inside the right door is a Swedish inscription, indicating the armoire later resided in Sweden, and was restored in 1928. Two large lower drawers open with oversized brass pulls. The interior offers three full-size shelves, along with an additional upper shelf within the crown that extends halfway back, providing tall vertical storage.
Age-related cracks, gaps, and old repairs are visible throughout the panels and interior, all consistent with an early 18th-century Baroque piece of this scale. Due to its immense size, the armoire was built in multiple sections including top, bottom, sides, doors, back, and six substantial dark bun feet, allowing for transport and installation. Restored strong, stable, and ready to place, this is a commanding Baroque statement piece suited for grand interiors.
