17th Century Console Table with Two Carved Drawers, Portugal

17th-century chestnut console table with deep, dark patina developed over more than 300 years of use. The table features carved drawer fronts, turned legs, and a trestle-style base. The top reflects centuries of wear through old repaired cracks, gouges, gnarls, stains, slight bowing and historic surface activity. Edges show traditional distressing, while more wear appears around the feet.
The two drawers run smoothly, though they no longer fit tightly, and the drawer bottoms were replaced at some point in time. No pulls remain on the drawers. Signs of old dried wormholes consistent with early European furniture are visible. Restored, strong, and stable, this piece functions beautifully as an entry console or behind a sofa, offering the presence and character of true 17th-century craftsmanship.
