The hand-painted floral design is all original on this colorful armoire with traditional Hungarian folk-art style elements. The 4 deep red painted panels are decorated with flowers in vases, a typical style in the 1800's. Also traditional in European country pieces was to create a "faux wood" finish with paint, seen here with a deep ocher but also touches of red, green and black creating the "grain" of the wood. Please examine the enlarged photos to appreciate the unique carved elements that add subtle style to this armoire as well. Notice the date of 1832 along the center top, likely a wedding or aniversary date. With a hanging rod on the inner left side and shelving in the right, this armoire has wonderful storage potential along with adding a romantic touch of the past to one's home. This armoire is in original, used condition.
