Late 18th-century Swedish grandfather clock crafted in pine with original painted finish in blue, teal, red, and white. The clock features a curved bonnet that frames a dramatic clock face, with decorative filagree detailing and original styling visible in the face and hands. Above the face is a circular tin disc marked ISM dated 1786, decorated with a royal crown and vine motif. The central door bears the text Erich Ersson and the date 1789 on the lower cabinet section.
The exterior shows much age-related distress with a deep patina consistent with its age, including typical cracks, scratches, and gouges. Along the side of the lower section there is visible age-related separation that was repaired at an earlier point in time.
The wood long case has been restored and remains strong and stable. The original clockworks no longer function. Many buyers choose to install a battery-operated mechanism for ease of use; this is left to the buyer’s discretion.
