18th century Swedish oak secretary or "bureau" with a newer professionally applied layered gray painted exterior finish. The interior is painted a moody gray-blue with teal undertones. The upper cabinet locks and functions with the included skeleton key, while the desktop rests on extending arms and has no key. Beneath the desk are one slender drawer and three traditional larger drawers with rococo-shaped fronts, each fitted with two decorative brass pulls and key escutcheons. The desk interior opens to reveal multiple petite drawers and storage compartments. The piece is adorned with carved panels on the desktop, a curved carved crown, and a curvaceous skirt resting on substantial cabriole feet. The upper section includes two heavy brass side handles for easier transport, and the secretary is built in two sections for installation. Three interior shelves are present. Typical age-related separation and cracks are visible in the bottoms of the lower drawers, as well as along the back and upper crown. Restored, strong, stable, and ready for use, this tall and elegant secretary is a commanding Swedish statement piece.
