19th century original painted Swedish secretary dated 1807, crafted in pine and retaining its original painted surface. The exterior features a dark reddish-brown background with deep forest green panels, red floral motifs, and painted borders. A monogram and the date “1807” appear in golden yellow paint, adding historical significance and decorative appeal. The painted surface shows honest wear consistent with age, contributing to the character of this early Swedish piece.
The upper cabinet secures with its original functioning lock and key and opens to reveal a newer matte brown painted interior with two shelves, including an upper curved and slotted shelf originally designed to display family silver. The desktop opens and rests on extending arms; the skeleton key is present and used as a pull only, as the desk lock no longer functions. Inside the desk are traditional petite drawers and cubby storage painted dark green with yellow-gold border accents that complement the exterior decoration.
The lower section contains three drawers, each opening with two brass pulls. Age-related wear including nicks, scratches, minor gouges, exterior desk cracks/distress, side distress, and small areas of age-related separation are present and consistent with a piece of this period. This secretary has been restored and is strong, stable, and ready for use, offering both decorative presence and functional storage.
