19th century painted and carved rustic Hungarian dome top trunk. Constructed primarily of pine with original painted and carved decoration. The exterior features geometric carving with circular medallion motifs and additional carved elements, with a crisscross lattice carving along the sides. The painted surface presents a brick-toned reddish background with remaining traces of teal blue and dark green. The domed top form is traditional to Eastern European examples. A wrought iron latch allowed the trunk to be locked for security. The trunk stands on legs showing surface wear, scratches, cracks and old, dried wormhole activity. The back is marked with monogram "K I” and dated 1903. The interior has been cleaned and waxed; old repair evident in top. The piece has been restored and is structurally strong, stable, and ready for use.
