Original hand-painted Swedish Dalarna cabinet dated 1797, crafted from pine and retaining its authentic folk art finish. The exterior features traditional Dalarna rosemaling painting executed in earth tones, with a classic Swedish bonnet with hand painted crown and dated 1797. The cabinet is arranged with two upper doors over a single lower cabinet door. Upper cabinet doors open to reveal 2 traditional interior drawers that are accessible only when the doors are open, along with divided shelving and an upper half shelf which is notched, originally intended for the display of family silver spoons. The upper original lock and key remain in place and function stiffly. The lower cabinet lock no longer functions; the key is used as a pull only, and a newer snap closure secures the bottom door. Typical age-related separation is visible along corners, particularly at the crown and base. Distress to the painted surface, cracks along the sides, scratches, and nicks are present throughout and are consistent with an item over 200 years old. The cabinet has been restored, is strong, stable, and ready for use.
