Large Swedish trunk with domed top, dated 1785, crafted in oak. Heavy ornate hand-wrought iron fixtures include large side handles, reinforced corners, and decorative iron straps, suggesting this was likely a custom order at the time.
The trunk retains its original green painted finish. The front displays a monogram, the date 1785, additional writing, and painted floral decoration. The painted surface shows significant distress consistent with age and use.
The oak body shows typical age-related separation of planks, though the iron strapping helps maintain the strength and structure. Scratches, cracks, and gouges are visible throughout, yet the trunk remains sturdy and substantial in presence.
The original lock still functions, though stiffly, and we suggest it be used as a pull only.
Restored, strong, stable, and ready to use. Very heavy with oak body and iron additions.
