Early 19th century Swedish Gustavian bench crafted in pine. Detailed egg and dart carving embellishes both the upper rail and the lower skirt.
Turned side columns are topped with carved faces, and four finials adorn the top. The central back features a decorative carved panel bordered with egg and dart carving, with a carved swag detail at the center. Four finials adorn the top rail.
The bench rests on turned and carved feet. The overall form presents as elegant and balanced, consistent with Gustavian design.
The seat is upholstered in simple linen or muslin and includes five back and side cushions. Cushions may be used as is or reupholstered at the discretion of the buyer.
The newer, professionally applied light gray painted finish has been lightly scraped, revealing natural pine beneath and adding depth and character. The back is also painted.
This settee is restored, strong, stable, and ready to be placed and enjoyed. Age related scratches, dings/nicks, separation, minor cracks consistent with age and use.
