19th century 8' tall bookcase or display cabinet crafted in hardwood, likely chestnut. The upper cabinet has glass paned doors, and much of the glass appears to be old. Gothic style arches shape the panes, and the cabinet is topped by a crown with deeply carved dentil molding. Curved, fluted canted sides accent both the upper and lower sections. The lower cabinet doors feature detailed carving with large floral medallion motifs and additional carved corner accents. The upper doors open with lock and key which works, though the lock is not very deep and works a bit loosely. The interior opens to three shelves. The interior has been painted a newer light blue.
The lower cabinet maintains its lock, though the key typically spins, and we recommend using the lower key as a pull only.
Restored strong, stable, and ready to use. Built in two sections for easier transportation and installation. Please note cracks along the sides and top surface, nicks and scratches typical for age and use, age related separation along the back, and a natural finish left with a warm patina.
