Early 18th century narrow cabinet from Portugal, crafted in hardwood, likely chestnut, and retaining its original painted decoration throughout. Each of the four doors is detailed with carved diamond relief, while flowers embellish the entire front and tree with church motif appearing at the left side. Tones of pink, mauve, and red have softened beautifully through years of use, resulting in a graceful aged patina. This cabinet is a very special find due to the beautifully executed hand-painted details.
Restored, stable and ready to use. The original key still works in the old locks, though a bit loosely. Please note some loss of paint at the upper left panel, visible cracks throughout with old repairs, distress and minor loss at the upper corners, old repairs and separation of planks at the back, and signs of old dried worm holes that are no longer active.
At only 12 1/2 inches deep, this is an especially decorative and versatile early cabinet. Distress to the wood does not impact function or use.
