19th century Hungarian flat top trunk crafted in pine with original hand painted decoration. The surface features a dark brown background with festive floral motifs in red. A name and date of 1874 embellish the front top section.
Simple fluted carved vertical details flank the front. A unique feature is the lower drawer, which opens with two brass pulls.
The trunk top opens on wrought iron hinges, revealing an interior compartment with a small lidded box to the left for storage of personal items. Side handles allow for easier transportation. 
The trunk has been restored and is strong, stable, and ready to use.
The top of this tall trunk shows cracks, nicks, dings, gouges, and wear to the painted surface. Additional wear is seen throughout. The wear and distress seen throughout reflects generations of use and contributes to the character of this example of European folk art craftsmanship.
