Late 18th century large architectural fragment from Portugal, retaining its original painted finish. The curved form is especially decorative, with original gold gilt flourishes set against a faux marble painted background in pink, red, and salmon tones. This very old piece shows age related separation in multiple places, along with cracks, nicks, some loss to the plaster, and areas of paint loss, all consistent with age and use. Stable and strong, this is a highly decorative and unique accent piece with wonderful scale, color, and old-world character.
