The newer, professionally applied layered black painted finish is all perfectly distressed to fit the age and grace of this decorative pair of chests and reveals the natural wood below. 
Restored and ready for use, drawers function and open with two brass pulls each.
All nicks, scratches, cracks, distress etc. are reflective of age and use and does not detract from the function nor elegant appeal of this striking pair of chests which may also serve as nightstands or even flanking consoles. Note that one chest has dividers in the top drawer, and in bottom drawer of same chest there is a hole in the side where an old knot in the pine wood fell out at some point in the past.
