19th century Swedish bench, crafted in pine with a lovely warm aged patina developed through generations of use. Decorative carving along the back and sides adds character to the substantial Scandinavian country form.
The removable seat lifts away to reveal the interior rather than opening on hinges. The lower section also pulls outward, reflecting the bench's original function as a type of spare bed and providing an interesting example of practical period furniture design. The seat received an upholstered cover at an earlier point in time. The existing upholstery is aged and stained, and buyer may choose to reupholster it. The seat currently remains firm.
Typical age related cracks, nicks, and minor separation along the wood seams are visible throughout and are consistent with generations of use. The wood bench has been restored, is stable, and is ready to use.
