Pair of 20th century French armchairs, crafted in oak and upholstered in heavily distressed vintage leather. Wonderful carved details accent the curved armrests, shaped skirts, and long cabriole legs, giving the chairs an elegant French form beneath the deeply aged upholstery.
The leather has developed extensive wear and distress from years of use, contributing significantly to the character of the pair. Along the fronts of both seats, areas of leather have worn away completely to expose the underlayer, with some tears revealing horsehair and stuffing beneath. Dark staining is visible near the center of both seats, with additional staining and wear along the edges, headrests, and other areas. Crackling is present throughout, most heavily along the seat and arms; stains and scratches/scuffs also visible throughout. Decorative nail head trim secures the leather along the backs, seats, and arms.
The oak frames have been restored and the chairs are usable. This pair is best suited for a buyer who appreciates the extreme level of authentic vintage distress or for someone who intends to reupholster the seats or chairs.
