18th century large French chest of three drawers, crafted in oak and given a bleached finish that creates a lighter appearance suited to both traditional and updated interiors. Darker areas remain scattered throughout the oak, adding dimension and preserving the Old World character of this more than 200-year-old beautiful chest.
Beautiful carved paneling accents each of the three large drawers. Newer decorative brass pulls have been added, with subtle evidence of previous hardware still visible upon close inspection. The drawers function easily and provide generous storage.
Considerable signs of age are present and are an important part of the character of the chest. Separation is visible between the planks along the top, including one area that was filled at an earlier point and has since opened slightly again. Additional cracks and age related separation are visible vertically along both sides and at various construction seams.
The interior drawer bottoms also show age related cracks and separation. When viewed from the front, the drawers do not fit tightly within the case and a slight gap is visible above each drawer (typical for age). Cracks, nicks, staining, and additional wear are present throughout, with further wear along the feet. These imperfections do not impact the function of the chest and are consistent with its considerable age.
Restored, stable, and ready to use.
