Late 19th century Hungarian rustic side table, crafted primarily in pine with a narrow upper drawer and useful lower shelf. Strong square legs, which appear to be oak, support the simple country form and give the table a substantial presence.
The heavily aged surface is central to the character of the piece. Cracks, stains, nicks, and other signs of use are visible throughout, along with old dry wormholes that are no longer active. An old burn mark is also visible along the top. Several legs show vertical cracking that does not impact function or stability, with some old repairs visible to legs. The lower shelf displays considerable wear, including nicks, gouges, staining, and age related separation between the planks. These imperfections contribute to the rustic Old World appeal of the table rather than detracting from its function.
Functional and stable, this versatile piece could serve as an accent table, work table, or small kitchen island.
