Original hand-painted pine armoire dated 1833, retaining its wonderfully aged folk art finish. A traditional faux wood painted background is accented with teal panels and hand-painted floral motifs primarily in red and antique white, creating a richly decorative example of European country craftsmanship.
The date 1833 remains visible above the single door, along with the Christogram of IHS, representing the Greek name for Jesus. Heavily carved panels frame the floral decoration across the door, while canted sides continue the colorful hand-painted floral motifs and add dimension to the cabinet's form.
The door opens to reveal two removable interior shelves. Each shelf is constructed from separate planks to accommodate the canted sides of the armoire. The old lock is no longer functional, and the door is now secured with a simple metal latch at the upper left corner. The door does not fit tightly within the frame, leaving visible gaps along the left side.
Generations of use are reflected in nicks, old markings, and cracks throughout, including along the sides. Age related separation is visible at corners and seams. Residual signs of old dried wormhole activity are also present but are no longer active.
Restored, stable, and ready to use.
