The warm earth tone colors are all original on this hand-painted antique blanket chest of 3 drawers from Hungary.
The lovely panels with hand painted flower bouquets, garland and more were traditional folk-art motifs of the era set against a brown faux wood finish, adding a cheerful feel to this chest.
Generations of use are revealed in the distress seen throughout including scratches, gouges(see left side), nicks (especially around edges), age-related separations seen along the top, back and sides, and more. The painted finish is worn down in many areas to the natural pine below.
This large pine chest of drawers has been restored; a wax finish adds a soft luster to the piece, and the three drawers function with two hanging brass pulls each.
This blanket chest is solid, stable and functional, including drawers.
All scratches, cracks, dings, and age-related separation are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this special hand painted chest of drawers. There is a slight bow to the top which does not impact function or use.
