This lovley original oil on wood panel portrait is by Michael Therkildsen (Denmark 1850-1925). Please examine photos closely to appreciate the finely executed details and the use of light on the lady's face and lace shawl. Minor age related wear, scrapes, nicks etc seen in painting and frame. Note there is a horizontal line/crack below the artist's signature.
Michael Therkildsen attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1868-1874 and debuted at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition with Et Bondehus (1875).In 1880, Therkildsen traveled to Paris receiving important input from current artists and developed his technique and use of colour. He received an exhibition medal for his major work, Køerne vandes (1887) exhibited at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition. In that year, the National Gallery of Denmark acquired its first of his paintings, Kaade Heste (1887). He won the Neuhausen Prize in 1877 and was awarded a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle (1889) in Paris. In 1916 he became a Knight of Order of the Dannebrog.
