The inviting charm of this trunk comes from the original hand-painted panels of dark blue embellished with delightful vases of bright colorful flowers seen in many Eastern European antiques as flowers were a favored traditional motif.  This flat top trunk shows generations of use in the worn finish, especially where the faux wood painted finish has worn down to the natural pine below. The pine has taken on a warm, rich aged patina through the years. Notice the long, hand-wrought iron hinges, side handles, large dovetail joints and date of 1908. Inside, there is a small "box/tray" with lid that was used to separate small, personal items from the rest of the blanket chest. Restored and waxed, this trunk is strong, stable and ready for use.
