This exceptional 200 year old original painted armoire is a rare find. The lovely blue painted finish is all original; the doors were even painted with two seperate designs possibly indicating an interior his/her hanging rack with initials on the doors as well. Note the monogram of CH and date of 1803 above each panel. The unique configuration and quality of this armoire are reflective of an entryway closet for a large country manor house. The square shaped upper cabinet spaces were used to store gentlemen's top hats, while the lower section has inside recessed "hangers" that swing outward which are a highly unusual/rare feature. Please enlarge photos to appreciate the graceful painted finish with traditional faux marble trim and flowers adorning each panel. This armoire has been professionally restored and waxed and is in very good condition ready to be used and enjoyed. Expected age-related wear such as scratches, dings, distress/crackles in paint are commensurate with age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this very special cabinet.
