This stunning pair of Italian commodes has a remarkable original green painted finish highlighted in gold and burnished red bringing out the carved details.To find one bombay chest of this size is a challenge, at 50" wide to find a pair is exceptionally rare. Beautiful green color was scraped by hand by a conservator down to the first original layer of paint. Exaggerated curves of the belly and legs add to the strong visual appeal. The brass pulls on the 3 drawers compliment the carving and cabriolet legs of these remarkable chest of drawers. All nicks, scratches, signs of wear are commensurate with age including minor cracks/separation of drawer bottoms (which are still lined with fleur de lis paper) and do not detract from the beauty nor function of these exceptional bombay chests.
