This stunning pair of Italian rococo commodes retains their remarkable original green painted finish highlighted in gold and burnished red bringing out the carved details. To find one Bombay chest of this size is a challenge, at 50" wide to find a pair is exceptionally rare. The painted finish was gently scraped by hand by a conservator down to the first original layer of beautiful green color paint. Tops are new, painted in a contrasting eggshell and soft gray background with mottled colors accenting the green chest. Exaggerated curves of the belly and cabriolet legs add to the strong visual appeal. The brass pulls on the 3 drawers compliment the carving and cabriolet legs of these remarkable chests of drawers.
Restored, stable, and ready to place and enjoy. All nicks, scratches, signs of wear are commensurate with age including minor cracks/separation of drawer bottoms (which are still lined with fleur de lis paper) and do not detract from the beauty nor function of these exceptional Bombay chests. Note the many close up photos of the two tops, which do have cracks running through both.
