Painted cabinets were a traditional element of Swedish country homes, this one is particularly lovely as it still maintains the original hand-painted blue finish with floral bouquet in the upper doors and stylized faux marble motif decorating the bonnet or crown which was the folk art style of the era.
This was likely a "wedding cabinet" given to recognize a new marriage.
Original locks and keys (2 included) still function.
Unique to this is the narrow depth of only 16.5", elongated body, curved bonnet and carved feet.
Enlarge the photos to appreciate the hand-painted flowers against the soft blue background of the doors; white painted interior. This cupboard has taken on a soft warm patina as the paint in many places has been worn down to the pine below through the generations of use.
This cabinet has been restored so it is strong, stable and ready for use. All knicks, scratches, age-related separation of wood are a reflection of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this lovely blue cupboard.
