The Winter 2021 Antiques Show is scheduled for January 21 to 24
Started over 50 years ago, the Round Top Antiques Show grew from one weekend a year to one of the largest antiques show in the US that is spread over 18 days every Spring and Fall with a growing Winter show as well. For all who enjoy antiquing, this is a “must attend event”, and has becomes a regular sojourn for many. Search the internet and you will find many sites that reference the “Round Top Antiques Show.” Some of these websites are confusing to newcomers as they promote only a single venue with their specific dates as opposed to the area-wide 18-day event. So, read on for an overview of the entire Round Top Antiques Show.
While it began in the quaint Central Texas town of Round Top with a population of 90, the towns of Warrenton, Fayetteville, Carmine and Burton are all involved. The word “Show” is a misnomer, for the Round Top Antiques Show is comprised of almost 2,000 antique vendors from all over the world spread over five towns and 21+ miles of antiques! Hwy 237, a two-lane country highway, is the main road that you will travel through Round Top. As you drive between the multitude of shopping venues, you will pass green fields filled with ancient sprawling oak trees. As you continue to shop and drive, you will marvel at longhorn cattle in the green pastures. Instead of shopping in the concrete jungle of a city, you will be struck by the natural beauty of this rural corner of Texas. There is a huge volume of antiques to be seen, but be sure to look out the window and enjoy the refreshing countryside as well!
For the Winter Show, only permanent buildings are open. While this weekend show is smaller than the more well known Spring and Fall Shows, there remain a large number of vendors from around the country with a great variety of antiques to appeal to everyone. For those uncomfortable with larger crowds, this is the perfect show to come experience Round Top and not feel overwhelmed at the same time.
As one of the largest antique shows in the country, this is an area-wide 2 1/2-week event. Different vendors and venues choose what dates they open and close their individual “show” during this 18-day period while some are open the entire duration each Spring and Fall. If you find a website that gives dates for a shorter duration, they are simply promoting their individual event. Many visitors plan their trip around a favorite venue which is only open one week while allowing time to see others as well. A few venues charge for parking and two charge admission, but experienced visitors know you can usually find free parking nearby.
This year, the Spring 2021 show is scheduled for March 18-April 4. For those who have questions around Covid related issues, all vendors are required to follow local, state and federal guidelines for safety. Local officials including the county judge, mayors and community leaders have been actively involved in creating a safe environment and are working closely with local, regional and state public health experts. The Fall 2020 show was a huge success while following these standards, and we expect the same for the coming Spring Show.
In the spirit of collaboration, show venues have agreed to adopt enhanced health standards for their individual shows to include mandatory masks for shoppers and dealers when social distancing cannot be achieved, shopping set up to ease the ability to remain socially distant, capacity limits according to state standards at the time and enhanced hand sanitizing facilities.
Just 5 miles south of Round Top you will discover Warrenton, popular for those who love to poke through hundreds of tents overflowing with antiques, collectibles, clothing and more. Remember to wear flat shoes and stay hydrated as you browse! On your drive to or from town, be sure to stop at Round Top Ranch Antiques, the newest, largest showroom with three huge buildings filled with authentic European furniture, oil paintings, architectural doors and more. Round Top Ranch Antiques has a large, free parking lot and an air-conditioned showroom to make your shopping more enjoyable, and even better news, they are open year-round!
This website will remain updated with any news or changes (Covid related or other) that might impact these dates.
The Round Top Antiques Show is not merely antique shopping, but an adventure that must be experienced in person. Come join us and bring some friends to share in the fun! Chances are good that Round Top will capture your heart and you will soon be dreaming of your next visit to this small town, big time, fun shopping escape!
